The Village of Duc Thanh 1966
This is a typical image of an Australian
soldier offensively called "Baby Killers" by some Australian
protesters during the Vietnam War.
Private Garry Towner, Assault Pioneers, is comforting a Vietnamese
child in the village of Duc Thanh while Cpl Sorenson 'plumbs' a post
as they erect a winch so the women can retrieve water from the well.
Assault Pioneers of 5RAR returned a few weeks later to discover that
the "Liberators of the People" had destroyed the well.
