5RAR Military Assistance Team May
1969
Lieutenant Steve Stinson, Officer in
Charge of the 'Team' is issuing equipment to members of the local
Regional Force (RF) and Popular Force (PF) soldiers at Phuoc Hoa on
Route 15.
During Operation Twickenham, a local South Vietnamese RF/PF Company
came under the control of 5 RAR.
This experiment in building up the confidence of the local troops
and encouraging them to venture out and operate away from their
defended posts showed some promise. Their tactic was usually one of
static defence, but with Australian liaison officers, this company
ventured out and searched the south-western corner of the Area of
Operations (AO).
