Australian Military Vehicles in Vietnam
were painted in the traditional 'Olive
Drab Jungle Green'. Also painted on the
doors in red was one of Australia's
favourite icons ....the Kangaroo;
extending the full length of the doors
as an identifier that they were
Australian military vehicles.
We often noticed the
rural Vietnamese pointing excitedly at the doors and mumble amongst themselves. It wasn't
until we asked an interpreter as to what the excitement was all about when we were told
that the Vietnamese, not having seen a kangaroo before, were amazed that Australia had
such large red rats. An endeavour to explain was futile.
