Brian Walker

2nd Lieutenant. Brian G. Walker, 21
Cottesloe, Western Australia.

Brian Walker enlisted in 1966 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. On March 9, 2/Lt. Walker was leading his platoon through a mine field when a mine was detonated killing Sgt. Smith and Cpl. Gilbert. Friendly ARVN forces hearing the explosion opened fire killing 2/Lt. Walker.

Bernard Smith

Sergeant. Bernard L. Smith, 29
Snowtown, South Australia.

Sgt. Smith enlisted in 1958 aged 19. He served in Malaya with the 1st Battalion RAR. He served on both tours with the 5th Battalion. Sgt. Smith was killed by a mine detonation as his platoon were moving through a minefield. 2/Lt. Walker and Cpl. Gilbert were also killed.

George Gilbert

Corporal. George G. Gilbert, 29
Newcastle, NSW.

Cpl. Gilbert was a career soldier who enlisted in October 1958 and served in Malaya. He did both tours with the 5th Battalion. He was killed when his platoon walked into a mine field in the early hours of March 9, 1969 in Phuoc Tuy Province.
